Game Review
RB Leipzig secured a 2-0 victory over SC Freiburg in their Bundesliga clash on January 14, 2026. The match, held at Leipzig's home ground, saw the hosts dominate the second half to claim all three points. This result was largely expected given Leipzig's strong form and higher league standing compared to Freiburg. The game remained goalless in the first half, with both teams struggling to create clear-cut chances. However, Leipzig broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Willi Orban (GAP +4.2%) found the back of the net, capitalizing on a well-delivered set-piece. Just three minutes later, Rômulo Cardoso da Cruz doubled Leipzig's lead, effectively putting the game beyond Freiburg's reach. Tactically, Leipzig's manager made effective use of his squad depth, introducing Ezechiel Banzuzi, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, Conrad Harder, Antonio Nusa, and Yan Diomande as substitutes to maintain the team's intensity. Freiburg's head coach also made several changes, bringing on Jordy Makengo Basambundu, Igor Matanovic, Vincenzo Grifo, Derry Scherhant, and Jan-Niklas Beste in an attempt to turn the tide, but Leipzig's defense, marshaled by Peter Gulacsi (GAP +2.3%) and Castello Lukeba (GAP +5.5%), held firm. David Raum (GAP +6.1%) was particularly impressive for Leipzig, contributing significantly to both defense and attack, while Assan Ouédraogo (GAP +3.7%) provided a dynamic presence in midfield. Freiburg's efforts were hampered by a lack of cutting edge in the final third, with Lucas Höler (GAP -1.1%) unable to make a significant impact. This victory consolidates Leipzig's position in the upper echelons of the Bundesliga table, enhancing their momentum as they continue to challenge for European qualification. Freiburg, on the other hand, will need to regroup and address their attacking inefficiencies to climb the standings in the coming weeks.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
